Marc opened his eyes. Everything was black... and then little white dots started to replace the darkness. White dots became white shapes, became white objects, white people. The bright light became so intense he almost started to cry. His head was killing him. Something was killing him.

Follow up:

One of the white people took a white object and held it close to Marc's eye
"Marc, this is the surgeon speaking, you have had a car accident and we will have to operate you. Do you understand me?"
Marc suddenly became very scared. He remembered the drive back, the car from the opposite direction, Tessa sitting next to him...
"Tessa, where is Tessa?"
"She is alright, don't worry, she had her seatbelt on. If you had had your seatbelt on as well, you might have been all right".
Tessa was fine. He was so relieved. He couldn't start imagining what would have happened if she had been hurt.
He felt somebody shaking his bed and he saw the ceiling start moving.
"We are going to take you down now for the operation. It will be over soon, don't worry".
